Youth Symphony

For decades, the Eugene-Springfield Youth Symphony (YS) has been a cornerstone of music education for young people, established in 1934 with a vision for the future. Today, it stands as one of the area’s leading youth orchestra programs. We bring together Lane County’s most talented student musicians, typically those in grades 9-12. However, we enthusiastically welcome musicians up to 21 years old who are looking to continue their musical journey. YS offers its members a professional-level orchestral experience, tackling major symphonies, concerti, and overtures, and performing with remarkable soloists in thrilling concerts.

Every year Youth Symphony partners with other esteemed music organizations in the area, offering our students unique performance opportunities. These collaborations include, but are not limited to, Opera is Instrumental with Eugene Opera and side-by-side concerts with the Oregon Mozart Players.

Youth Symphony is proudly led by Dr. David Jacobs, the Director of Orchestral Studies at the University of Oregon. Dr. Jacobs brings tremendous professionalism and musicianship, elevating the orchestra to new levels of artistry and sophistication. For more about Dr. Jacobs, click here.
